Skip Hire Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to our most common skip hire FAQs, including information about skip sizes, permits, hire periods, waste restrictions, recycling and delivery. If you have a question that isn't answered below, our Redditch Skip Hire team will be happy to help.
What size skips do you offer in Redditch?
Redditch Skip Hire offers a range of skip sizes to suit different projects, including 2 yard, 4 yard and 7 yard skips, as well as larger roll-on/roll-off options. Whether you’re clearing a garden, renovating a bathroom or carrying out a larger building project, we can help you choose a suitable skip.
What size skip do I need?
The right skip size depends on the amount and type of waste you need to dispose of. A 2 yard skip is ideal for smaller household and garden clearances, while a 4 yard skip is suitable for projects such as kitchen or bathroom refits and general DIY work. Our popular 7 yard builder’s skip is better suited to larger quantities of bulky waste.
How long can I hire a skip for?
Our standard skip hire period is up to 14 days. If you finish your project sooner, we can arrange an earlier collection. If you need the skip for longer, please contact our team to discuss your requirements.
Can I get same-day skip hire in Redditch?
Same-day skip hire may be available on request, depending on availability and your location. If you need a skip urgently, contact Redditch Skip Hire as early as possible and we’ll do our best to arrange delivery.
Do I need a permit to hire a skip?
If your skip is going to be placed entirely on private property, such as your driveway, you will generally not require a skip permit. If the skip needs to be positioned on a public highway, road or verge, a permit from the relevant local authority will be required. Redditch Skip Hire can arrange the permit on your behalf where applicable.
Can you arrange my skip permit for me?
Yes. Where applicable, Redditch Skip Hire can apply for the skip permit on your behalf. Permit approval times vary depending on the local authority, so please allow additional time when booking a skip that needs to be placed on a public road or verge.
What can I put in a skip?
Skips can be used for many common types of household, garden, renovation and building waste. However, some materials require specialist handling and must not be placed in a standard skip. If you’re unsure whether a particular item can go into your skip, please contact us before loading it.
What can't I put in a skip?
Restricted items include asbestos, fridges and freezers, tyres, paint cans, TVs and monitors, batteries, oil, solvents, liquids, fluorescent tubes, clinical or medical waste, plasterboard and hazardous or toxic materials. Please contact us if you need advice about disposing of specialist waste.
Can I overfill my skip?
No. Waste must remain level with the top of the skip so that it can be transported safely. Overfilled skips will not be collected until the excess waste has been removed.
Do you recycle the waste collected from skips?
Yes. Redditch Skip Hire operates licensed recycling facilities in Redditch and aims to recycle as much of the waste collected as possible. Approximately 92% of the waste we collect is recycled, helping to reduce the amount sent for disposal.
Do you provide skip hire for businesses and builders?
Yes. We provide commercial and construction skip hire as well as domestic skip hire. Our range includes standard skips, larger roll-on/roll-off containers and enclosed skips, making them suitable for everything from property renovations to larger commercial and building projects.
Do you offer enclosed skips?
Yes. Redditch Skip Hire offers 7 yard and 14 yard enclosed skips. Enclosed skips provide more secure waste storage and can be particularly useful for building sites, commercial projects and locations where additional security is required.
